PALM100 Ultras at the Beach
Sorry for the generic email to everyone, I'm just emailing everyone at once.
I pulled the plug on Palm100 last week because of poor registration going into the race. Only 4 people have committed and registered, and while I know several ( 30 + ) people will register last minute it won’t be enough to make it to a number where I won’t lose money putting on the race. I love putting on this event, but it's costly with all the bling, medals, awards, shirts, timing and other things that go into putting on a quality race. I also don't want to stiff anyone for the work they do for the event, if there isn't enough registrations to pay the bills. I don’t mind doing all the work, but I’m not in a position to come out of pocket to fund the event.
So just to be clear The Palm100 on March 13th, 2016 is canceled! I'll be putting checks in the mail this week, ( for the total amount of your registration... ( Entry fee + Registration fee ) to the address you used to register. If you want the check to go somewhere else, reply to this email with the new information.
I hope to be back in the fall with another version of the race as a training run for longer distance Ultras and marathons. I also am considering bringing back the 100 mile team relay, running down into Ft Lauderdale and back up to Palm Beach ( which would be impossible this year due to the Las Olas Triathlon in Ft Lauderdale on the same day as the Palm100 ) Right now looking at the end of September beginning of October, but waiting to see what availability the timer has open. [ that won't help everyone from Canada :-( ]
Would love to hear your feedback on this. If you visit the FUR ( Florida Ultra Runners ) Facebook site I have a spreadsheet posted with all the Ultras in the State of Florida, ( pinned to the top ) if your still looking for something around that date. The course is still available to run unsupported and there are plenty of water and bathroom stops along the way. Hit me up for a map if your interested.
Sorry to have to cancel, but wanted you to know sooner then later.
Thanks and happy running,
Live up north?
Cheat winter in the sunshine of South Florida, running this beautiful road race!

The 32K is a Great Boston Training Run!
The PALM100 three or four runner 100K team relay race will charge along "A1A" from Deerfield Beach to the Boynton Inlet and back doing 2 loops. Enjoy running “long” with friends on Saturday mornings? This event is made for you!
Returning in 2016 are the PALM100’s individual ultramarathon-distance competitions.
The 100 kilometer event will begin at the beach in Deerfield Beach. Runners will head north for 16 miles to the turn-around at Ocean Inlet Park [ located at the Boynton Beach Inlet ] then run back to the finish line in Deerfield Beach where the race began, completing loop one of this two loop course.
Runners in the 50 kilometer race will begin at Deerfield Beach and head north the turn-around at Ocean Inlet Park [ located at the Boynton Beach Inlet ] then run back to the finish line in Deerfield Beach where the race began. This is a fast and flat course--a great venue for setting a new "PR".
The 32K Individual run will be back. This run will start in Deerfield Beach and run to Delray Beach, turning around at the Anchor Park aid station and heading back to Deerfield Beach. This is a perfect 20 mile race for anyone training for Boston
This year we’ll finish in the shade of Deerfield Beaches North Pavilion. You’ll be asked when you register to select one of the 5 food choices being offered, just so we can have a rough idea of what to expect race day. After the race you’re free to select any one of the 5 food choices offered. Any other people in your party will be able to order off the regular menu offered by JB’s on the beach, located on the south side of the Finish Line.
Showers and bathrooms are plentiful in the area where the race will be staged. The newly renovated Fishing Pier is open to the public for $1 per person, and the view is fantastic. [ I tried to get the race to finish out on the pier, but they said ..NO! ] Parking is available in the USA parking garage located about 1.5 blocks away from the start. The rate is $12 for 24 hours. There are 2 convenience stores [ ones a 7/11 ] between the garage and the start as well as 7 other restaurants and bars.
Plan on brining a beach chair and hanging out at the finish line to cheer on the rest of the runners as they cross the finish line. We’ll have a gear check area at the finish so after your race, you can jump in the ocean or shower off and change in one of the bathrooms at the start finish area.
Running an Individual “Ultra”
Ever run a marathon?
Looking for a different running experience—with excellent bragging rights? Then the PALM100 individual races of 50 kilometers and 100 kilometers are waiting for you.
Move up to the challenge of an ultramarathon. Run the barrier island between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, from Deerfield Beach to Ocean Inlet Park in Boynton Beach and back, past the amazing real estate and landscaping of the Florida Gold Coast. The 32k, 50k and 100k are fully supported, with aid stations located approximately every 3-5 miles to provide food, water, ice and electrolyte replacement.
Running with a Relay Team
Ever run a half-marathon?
Then the PALM100 Relay Race is perfect for you–and 3 of your running friends! Our relay format is a lot of fun and easy to organize. It allows you and your mates a lot of flexibility in scheduling the length of each "leg" of the race to fit your ability level, and to make changes to the plan during the race if you like. Then there is the creative side: naming your team, decorating the team vehicle, perhaps designing a team tee shirt or costume--and yelling insults at the competition along the way!

2015 Notes from the Race Director:
I’m happy to announce that the PALM100 Ultra’s will be back for its 8th running. The new date for the race will be, March 13th 2016.
There are NOT a lot of changes for this year, the start & finish line will be at the North pavilion next to JB’s on the Beach restaurant.
The Start and Finish will be centered around the Deerfield Pier area of the beach. ( Google….200 NE 21st Ave, Deerfield Beach 33441 )
Plans are to keep the same 4 races; the 100K individual race, the 50K individual race, the 32k Individual race and the 100K 3 or 4 person Team Event.
The 100K team course and the 100K course will be the same, out and back from Deerfield Beach to the Boynton Beach Inlet in Ocean Ridge and back, Twice! ( Approx 64 miles )
The 50K event will run from Deerfield Beach to the Boynton Beach Inlet in Ocean Ridge and back. ( Approx 32 miles )
The 32K individual race will run from Deerfield Beach to Anchor Park in Delray and back to Deerfield Beach! ( Approx 19 miles )
JB's on the Beach Restaurant, located right next to the Finish Line, will provide meals after the race to all runners on their outdoor patio that faces the beach and finish line. Your pull tag on your bib will entitle you to a selection off a short menu created for the race, a drink ( non alcoholic ) and the tip! Additional items would be available for purchase and additional family members would just pay their way. This is necessary because of restriction on cooking at the beach, and the hoops necessary to jump thru to have a grill to cook burgers would add $$$ to the registration price. Its much easier to have a restaurant located beside the finish line do all that work, and we just focus on the race and sipping cold beer or margaritas after the race watching fellow runners finish!
All of the races will be starting between 6am & 7:30am. We’re planning a 15-30 minute stager between races, to break up the groups. This means runners in the 50K events will be finishing around noon, so the thought of having an “After Party” with everyone is slim, as the 100 event runners won’t be done for another 6-8 hours. However we’re going to encourage everyone to bring a beach chair and make a beach day of it, hanging out with your fellow runners as long as your schedule allows. Showers are available at the beach at several spots close to where we are looking at being, and restrooms at the beach have just been remodeled and are plentiful in that area. Parking is available at a parking garage 2 blocks away for $10 for 24 hours.
Hotels in the area are pricey since we’re still ‘in’ season and at the start of spring break ! I suggest checking prices on a site like Expedia or Travigo to see what prices are in the area! ( search on Deerfield Beach, FL ).
